Sha’ban is one of the meritorious months for which we find some particular instructions in the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam. It is reported in the authentic ahadith that Prophet Muhammad, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, used to fast most of the month in Sha’ban.

Rabi’ul-Awwal is the most significant month in the Islamic history, as we were blessed in this month by the birth of the Holy Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam.

Prior to the advent of Islam the Arabs were steeped in superstitious beliefs, beliefs that regulated their social, economic and political activity. Superstition created a mysterious value system that gave rise to fear, suspicion and enmity.

Rasulullah (S) is reported to have said: “Whoever expands his expenditure on his family on the day of ‘Aashura, Allah will inflate his sustenance for the rest of that year.”
